Senior Software Engineer - 1

Stellar Health

Software Development

Summary

Stellar Health is hiring a Senior Software Engineer - 1 to join their Software Development team. At Stellar Health, we help primary care providers put patient health first. Key skills: React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go.

About the role

About Stellar Health:

Historically, US Healthcare has relied on a fee-for-service reimbursement system where providers are paid based on the quantity of patient visits and procedures, rather than the quality of health outcomes.

At Stellar Health, we help primary care providers put patient health first. Our platform - a mix of technology, people, and analytics - supports providers at the point of care, delivering real-time patient information, activating practice staff, and empowering providers and care teams with incentives that reward the work they are already doing to keep patients healthy. Using the Stellar App, our web-based, point-of-care tool; practices receive a simple checklist of recommended actions that support the best quality care. Providers and care teams are then paid monthly for each action they complete, and Payors save money in reduced healthcare costs along the way.

Stellar is a US-based Health-tech backed by Top VCs (General Atlantic, Point72, & Primary Venture Partners) with an established product & proven operating model. We’ve shown that we make a real difference for physician practices and their patients.

About the position:

As a Senior Software Engineer - 1, you will be a trusted owner inside one of our engineering squads and will be building and maintaining core parts of our data and/or application platform end-to-end. You'll make well-reasoned design tradeoffs, partner closely with PM, Design, Analytics, and QA inside the squad, and write design docs that communicate your technical decisions to the team. You'll also be a force multiplier for the engineers around you, mentoring junior teammates via pairing, code review, and design review.

Our team focuses on iterating quickly on features and products to determine what works best and drives business goals. We look for engineers who write clean, scalable code and contribute to our collaborative team culture.

We're focused on creating a seamless and frictionless experience for healthcare providers working in the Stellar application. This includes ingesting and transforming data so that providers trust our application as an up-to-date source of truth, evolving the frontend user experience to be more intuitive and insightful, and everything in between.

The team is tight knit with high ownership, and your work will have a meaningful impact on our ability to directly improve patient access to health care.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Own complex projects end-to-end from technical design through seamless launch with minimal oversight and partner closely with product, design, analytics, and QA.

  • Build a high-quality platform which is scalable, efficient, and flexible to handle various customer and internal data.

  • Ensure our users are presented with timely and accurate information that helps them do their job.

  • Write design docs and developer documentation that communicate your technical decisions to the team and evolve the architecture to improve operational efficiency and support business growth.

  • Take initiative to fix issues before they're assigned and ship complex products to QA that are well-baked and bug-free.

  • Provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ work.

  • Mentor more junior teammates via pairing, code review, and design review.

  • Set consistent standards via code and design reviews, as well as your own technical contributions.

  • Actively contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture and ensure engineers are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform.

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture, including but not limited to data ingestion, consumption, and export.

  • Work with leaders and key stakeholders to identify the bottlenecks for the system and for the whole end-to-end process to improve SLOs, improve data quality, and reduce manual work.

What You'll Bring:

  • A minimum of five years of total professional engineering experience, with recent hands-on experience writing production-level back-end code (Python preferred / Java / C++ / Go) as well as front-end technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks like React, Angular or VueJS).

  • A track record of driving complex medium to large projects end-to-end from technical design through launch.

  • Experience in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure.

  • Expertise in relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

  • Experience writing technical design docs for your own work and communicating decisions to teammates.

  • A track record of mentoring more junior engineers via code review, pairing, and design review.

  • Great written and verbal communication skills. You are comfortable partnering with PM, Design, Analytics, and QA. We work with people across time zones and diverse backgrounds, so you need to be able to communicate both effectively and inclusively.

  • Data platform experience (preferred) using data cloud solutions like Snowflake or Databricks, and dbt for data transformations.
