Process Engineer, CNC Machining

Dandy

USA - RemoteFull-time$142.6K - $167.7KPosted 13 days ago
Software Development

Summary

Dandy is hiring a Process Engineer, CNC Machining to join their Software Development team. Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Key skills: REST.

About the role

Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients.

This role will focus heavily on CNC programming, CAD/CAM support, process development, fixture design, tooling selection, cycle time improvement, and new product introduction for patient-specific dental components — from prototype to scaled production.

You will support CNC programming and process development using CAD/CAM software by designing, programming and validating full 5-axis machining workflows that achieve micron-level precision, excellent surface finish, and high throughput.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Integrate automation systems (robotic loading, part handling, in-line probing, vision inspection) into CNC processes to achieve 24/7 “lights-out” operation.

  • Optimize toolpaths, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies for complex organic geometries and high-strength biocompatible ceramics and alloys.

  • Develop and implement CNC process plans — tooling, fixture designs, validation protocols, and SPC control plans — to ensure reproducibility and compliance.

  • Collaborate with R&D and design teams to improve manufacturability of patient-specific geometries while maintaining clinical fidelity.

  • Lead root cause analysis and yield improvement across machining cells using structured problem-solving and statistical tools.

  • Work cross-functionally with software, automation, and quality teams to build reliable, automated manufacturing lines capable of scaling to tens of thousands of custom parts per day.

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure cohesive planning, integration, and execution between vendors and manufacturing teams.

  • Build and manage relationships with current and future machine, tooling, and integration partners.

  • Scout and qualify new technologies — cutting tools, coolant systems, machine architectures, or in-process metrology systems — to push the limits of digital manufacturing.

Must Haves:

  • 8+ years of experience in micron-level precision CNC programming, machining, and process development.

  • Experience in both high-mix high-volume (HMHV) and low-mix high-volume (LMHV) manufacturing environments.

  • Guide selection and procurement of CNC equipment, evaluating machine tools, tooling systems, and workholding solutions.

  • Deep understanding of machine level G code and CAM programming software.

  • Deep technical fluency in multi-axis milling (4 to 5 axis), milling toolpath strategy development, toolpath optimization, cutting dynamics, and precision fixturing.

  • Experience with industrial CNC control development of subprograms, variable based programming or custom macro programming for custom G and M code generation (e.g., Fanuc, Fagor, Siemens).

  • Strong understanding of statistical process control (SPC), process validation, and manufacturing scalability.

  • A systems-thinking approach — understanding how design, manufacturing, and inspection fit together in a digital feedback loop.

  • Ability to work remotely — communicating and coordinating with vendors and cross functional teams to execute and deliver projects on schedule.

  • Travel - 30% to vendors and production facilities as needed.

Nice to Haves:

  • Manufacturing experience within medical devices, dental, or other patient-specific manufacturing domains.

  • Experience templating and standardizing CAM strategies to streamline programming and manufacturing workflows.

  • Experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) for machine tool applications.

  • Experience with CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, ESPRIT, Hypermill, etc.

  • Experience integrating CNC machine tools, automation or robotics into machining workflows (robot arms, part changers, vision systems, or in-line measurement).

  • Experience with ceramics, CNC machining, spray applications, inkjet printing, etc

  • Previous experience in a factory setting or with manufacturing teams.
