Translation & Localization

Summary

Wikimedia Foundation is hiring a Italian Translator / Linguist (Contract) to join their Translation & Localization team. The group is a pilot being coordinated by the Wikimedia Foundation Communications department.

Summary

Our Communications Translators group within the Wikimedia Foundation supports translation of the organization's communications materials. The group is a pilot being coordinated by the Wikimedia Foundation Communications department. Members will be able to select, based on their availability, which translation projects to participate in. Translation projects will focus on speedy translations of communication materials developed by the Wikimedia Foundation for organizational use from English into target languages (Italian in this case). Each target language will have 3-6 translators to rotate between project assignments.

Translators may be paid (subject to certain legal terms) after providing translations within a set timeline and with satisfactory quality and accuracy of the translations. Compensation will be project based (on each page of English translation text, taking on average two hours to translate).  These projects are fully remote and will require the use of your own computer and internet access.

We would like you to be able to:

  • Translate organization materials from English into Italian
  • Review the translation work of overs in your language for quality
  • Provide translations of common Wikimedia terms

We would like you to have these skills:

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in the language you will be translating into
  • Experience communicating within the Wikimedia movement

And it would be even better if you:

  • Have experience with Translate extension in use on Meta-Wiki and other multilingual wikis
  • Have experience with WordPress or other content management systems
