Global Investigations, Sextortion

TRM Labs

Summary

TRM Labs is hiring a Global Investigations, Sextortion to join their remote team. TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. Key skills: React, Rails, AI.

About the role

Build a Safer World.

TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM's platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.

TRM's Global Investigations team is the tip of the spear against the networks behind financial sextortion and youth predation and the infrastructure they run to coerce and exploit minors. The team operates an integrated workflow, from AI-supported triage of inbound reporting to fast, high-stakes investigation, targeting, and disruption — in coordination with NCMEC, IC3, U.S. and international partners, and platform/consortium intel networks.

As a Global Investigator, you will work at the targeting and disruption layer of sextortion investigations. You will validate high-priority victim and infrastructure leads, use open-source intelligence (OSINT) to identify actors, aliases, personas, infrastructure, and behavioral patterns, follow the money across the payment rails these networks actually use, and build the targeting packages that enable arrests, platform takedowns, and the dismantling of these groups operate at scale. The impact you will have here:

  • Lead OSINT-driven investigations into sextortion actors — identifying aliases, personas, infrastructure, social-media footprints, communication channels, bait packs and reused lure imagery, and links across victims and campaigns.

  • Follow the money across the rails this threat actually uses — consumer payment apps (Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Apple Pay), gift cards, and cryptocurrency where cases are crypto-enabled — and draft and work the legal process to act on it.

  • Pivot on selectors — a handle, phone number, email, username, image, domain, account, or a cryptocurrency address — to expand a single report into the surrounding network.

  • Produce actionable targeting packages that connect OSINT findings, financial evidence, and victim reporting to identify responsible actors and networks, enabling law-enforcement action, platform takedowns, and infrastructure disruption.

  • Validate time-sensitive victim and infrastructure signals and move high-confidence matters through the escalation workflow. Speed and accuracy both matter.

  • Help drive victim safety — supporting outreach to victims.

What we’re looking for:

  • Law-enforcement experience. Experience as a current, former, or retired law-enforcement professional, including sworn officers, investigators, or task-force officers. Candidates with backgrounds in state, local, or federal investigations — particularly ICAC task forces or similar cybercrime, child-exploitation, financial-crime, or digital-investigations teams — are strong fits.

  • OSINT investigations background. Demonstrated experience using open-source intelligence to identify online actors, aliases, accounts, infrastructure, communication patterns, linked personas, and operational networks.

  • Financial-investigations experience. Experience investigating the payment methods commonly used in these cases, including payment apps, gift cards, and crypto-enabled flows. You can follow funds across platforms, identify relevant selectors, and develop leads that support law-enforcement action, platform referrals, and infrastructure disruption. You do not need to be the world’s deepest blockchain specialist, but you must be able to follow the money confidently and document what matters.

  • Sextortion or victim-centered cybercrime investigation experience. You understand the sensitivity, urgency, and victim impact of sextortion cases, and you can investigate quickly without losing rigor, discretion, or care.

  • Legal-process familiarity. Working knowledge of preservation requests, subpoenas, and 2703(d) orders, including how to draft requests, interpret returns, and move quickly from a selector to an investigative lead.

  • 5-7 years of investigative experience across OSINT, cybercrime, crypto investigations, asset recovery, law enforcement, trust and safety, blockchain analytics, or equivalent.

  • Experience producing investigative packages that can support formal legal, compliance, platform escalation, asset-preservation, or enforcement workflows.

  • Creative tactical thinking. You can pivot from one handle, wallet, image, phone number, email, username, transaction, or platform account into a broader network view.

  • A bias to action. Handed something you've never seen, you figure out the first move and take it. When the playbook stops, you keep going — and you think in outcomes, not lanes.

  • AI fluency. You use AI tools in your workflow to synthesize returns, cluster leads, draft outputs, accelerate analysis, and improve investigative speed, with examples of how AI has materially impacted your work.

  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Learn about TRM Speed in this position:

  • React timely to the movement of funds during an ongoing investigation.

  • Support other teams on time sensitive issues that might be unforeseen.

  • Continuously learn new issues in crypto.

Life at TRM

We are building a safer world. That promise shows up in how we work every day.

TRM moves quickly. We are a high velocity, high ownership team that expects clarity, follow-through, and impact. People who thrive here are energized by hard problems, experimentation, and continuous feedback. If something takes months elsewhere, it will ship here in days.

Our work sits at the intersection of AI, national security, and fighting crime. The problems are complex, the stakes are real, and the environment evolves quickly. The pace and intensity of the work reflect the importance of the mission. As a result, the way we operate requires a high level of ownership, adaptability, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

At TRM, you should expect:

  • Priorities and targets to change quickly as we experiment and iterate

  • Work that often requires operating with a high degree of ambiguity

  • A high level of personal ownership and accountability

  • Close collaboration across teams and functions

  • Frequent, high-touch communication

  • Creative problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking

  • A pace that rewards urgency, adaptability, and outcomes

This environment is energizing for people who enjoy building, solving hard problems, and making progress in situations that are not always fully defined. It also requires comfort navigating ambiguity, adjusting course as new information emerges, and maintaining focus and positivity in a fast-moving and intense environment.

We also recognize that this style of operating is not for everyone. If you are primarily optimizing for predictability or a consistently balanced workload, we encourage you to use the interview process to pressure test whether this environment is truly the right fit. We want teammates who thrive here, not just survive here.

At the same time, many people find this work deeply rewarding. If you are excited by meaningful problems, motivated by ambitious goals, and energized by working alongside mission-driven colleagues, there is a good chance you will find TRM to be an exceptional place to grow and contribute. AI Fluency at TRM

AI fluency is a baseline expectation at TRM.

We believe AI meaningfully changes how top performers operate. We expect every team member to use AI to accelerate and reimagine their craft, not just automate surface tasks.

  • Accelerate repeatable workflows

  • Structure and solve problems

  • Improve output quality

  • Increase speed and leverage

You will be evaluated on applied AI fluency during the interview process.

Leadership Principles

We hire and grow against three leadership principles. They’re the standards for how we operate, treat each other, and make decisions.

  • Impact-Oriented Trailblazer: We put customers first and move with speed, focus, and adaptability. We treat every plan like an experiment – test, ship, measure, and iterate quickly.

  • Master Craftsperson: We care deeply about our craft. We balance speed with high standards, own outcomes end‑to‑end, and invest in getting better everyday.

  • Inspiring Colleague: We add clarity and energy, not noise. We bring humility, candor, and a one‑team mindset — giving and receiving feedback to make the team stronger.

Join our Mission

At TRM we care deeply about our craft. We are looking for individuals who want their work to matter, who experiment with speed and rigor, and who take pride in building a safer world for billions of people. If you’re excited by TRM’s mission but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply — we hire for slope, judgment, and the will to learn fast.
