Director of Information Technology

Management

Summary

Tekmetric is hiring a Director of Information Technology to join their Management team. Built by a shop owner and shaped by the needs of the industry, Tekmetric brings together innovation, real-world experience, and a thriving community to help shops thrive - not just survive. Key skills: Go, AI.

About the role

About Tekmetric

Tekmetric is the all-in-one, cloud-based platform helping auto repair shops run smarter, grow faster, and serve customers better.

Built by a shop owner and shaped by the needs of the industry, Tekmetric brings together innovation, real-world experience, and a thriving community to help shops thrive - not just survive. From running a shop, to securing payments to engaging customers, our platform simplifies operations so shop owners can focus on what really matters: delivering exceptional service, earning trust, and growing sustainably.

Officially founded in Houston in 2017, Tekmetric has grown from a single shop’s vision to the industry’s leading solution - all by staying true to our values of transparency, integrity, innovation, and a service-first mindset.

But we’re not just building software. We’re building a movement. We’re empowering repair shops to rise above the daily grind, create meaningful connections with their customers, and lead the industry forward - one interaction at a time.

Come build with us. Join the journey. Shape the future of auto repair.

Working the Tekmetric Way

At Tekmetric, we’re building a culture where winning matters - not for ego, but because when our customers win, we win together.

We move fast, stay curious, and take full ownership of our results — no excuses, no finger-pointing. If you thrive in ambiguity, take initiative, and view honest feedback as fuel for growth, you’ll feel right at home here.

We’re direct but respectful, ambitious yet grounded, and collaborative at every level. Everyone leads through impact and is encouraged to speak up, share ideas, and challenge assumptions (even your manager’s). This is a place for builders, not bystanders.

Success here takes focus, follow-through, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves — but if you’re driven by meaningful work and real results, it’s deeply rewarding. You’ll join a team that cares about the work, supports one another, and takes smart risks to achieve bold goals. Be yourself, stay mission-focused, and you’ll thrive. If that energizes you, we can’t wait to meet you.

At Tekmetric, great work happens anywhere, but great teams are built through intentional connection. We offer hybrid and remote work models based on your proximity to our office hubs. Because we value in-person collaboration, travel is an expected part of every role. We come together several times a year for team and company-wide offsites to align on goals and strengthen relationships. Attendance at these events is expected and fully supported.

What You’ll Do

We're entering our next phase of growth and we're looking for a Director of IT who's done this before — scaled an internal technology function through rapid growth and increasing complexity.

This role isn't about maintaining what exists. It's about evolving it. You'll own our IT strategy, modernize our systems and tooling, embed security and compliance into how we operate, and lead the way we adopt and govern AI across the company.

You'll work closely with Engineering, Security, Finance, People, and Operations — not just as a support function, but as a strategic partner who helps the business move faster and smarter.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience leading IT strategy at a company of 500+ employees
  • Proven track record of designing and scaling IT systems and tooling
  • Strong understanding of modern SaaS ecosystems and architecture
  • Experience implementing AI tools and/or defining AI strategy in a business context
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and executive communication skills
  • Experience partnering with security/compliance functions (SOC2, ISO, etc.)

Why This Role Matters

We’ve built a strong foundation. This role is about ensuring our internal technology scales with the business and becomes a competitive advantage

You will be responsible for:

  • Defining and leading the company’s IT strategy, creating a clear 12–24 month roadmap aligned with business priorities, growth plans, and operational needs
  • Establishing accountability and process discipline across the organization — identifying where standards aren't being followed, setting clear expectations, and driving adoption even where there's resistance.
  • Partnering closely with leadership to proactively identifying risks, opportunities, and gaps across systems, security, tooling, and processes
  • Building strong relationships across the organization and leading through influence, ensuring teams adopt the right processes, controls, and ways of working
  • Driving a company-wide tooling strategy, ensuring investments are thoughtful, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with long-term business needs
  • Establishing strong governance around systems, security, identity and access management, and AI usage across the company
  • Developing processes and operating rhythms that allow the IT function to stay ahead of company growth rather than reacting to it
  • Leading and developing the IT team, providing strategic direction while empowering the team to execute effectively
  • Thriving in a fast-moving, high-growth environment with evolving priorities, ambiguity, and increasing complexity

What Success Looks Like

  • A clear, forward-looking IT roadmap aligned to business priorities
  • A rationalized, scalable, and cost-efficient tool stack
  • Strong internal AI adoption with clear governance and measurable impact
  • Seamless employee IT experience at scale
  • Security and compliance fully integrated into day-to-day operations

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience leading IT strategy and systems architecture at a 500–1500 employee company
  • Experience in high-growth environments where the company scaled significantly over a 3–5 year period
  • Proven success consolidating fragmented tooling environments and driving more standardized, scalable systems
  • Deep experience with identity and access management in complex SaaS environments
  • Strong judgment balancing security, compliance, and business speed
  • Experience creating AI governance frameworks, evaluating AI tools, and driving responsible adoption across a company
  • Strong understanding of modern SaaS ecosystems, integrations, automation, and internal systems architecture
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on execution levels
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and executive communication skills
  • Experience partnering with security and compliance teams across frameworks like SOC2 and ISO

We’ve built a strong foundation. This role is about ensuring our internal technology scales with the business and becomes a competitive advantage.
