About Blackbird Health

Blackbird Health is clinician-founded, owned, and operated by dedicated professionals. We believe that providing the best care for children starts with building the best possible team. We deliver virtual and in-person mental health services across Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey—and we’re growing into new markets in 2026.

At Blackbird, we take a whole-child approach, looking at how the brain, body, and behavior interact to address the root causes of challenges, not just the symptoms. Every role matters here, and you’ll join a collaborative, supportive, and innovative team that’s shaping the future of pediatric mental health care. If you’re passionate about helping children and families while growing your career, Blackbird is the place to make an impact.

Join us and help change mental health care for children for the better!

Position Overview

As the Director of Medical Services at Blackbird Health, you'll serve as a key member of our leadership team, overseeing the medical aspects of our behavioral health services. Reporting to the VP of Medical Services, you'll lead a cohort of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical professionals—providing both administrative and clinical oversight to ensure excellent patient care. You'll develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate across teams to deliver integrated, personalized, and comprehensive care. This is a unique opportunity to shape clinical excellence while mentoring the next generation of pediatric mental health providers in a fast-paced, growing organization.

What Makes You, You:

  • Mission-Driven: You are passionate about transforming behavioral health for youth and committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate psychiatric care.
  • Clinically Excellent: You are an experienced PMHNP with at least 3 years in pediatric mental health and a deep understanding of evidence-based practices in psychiatry. You bring clinical expertise with a warm, patient-centered approach and have worked independently at the top of your scope.
  • Leader & Mentor: You have at least 3 years of experience in an administrative or leadership role in behavioral health. You excel at leading and motivating teams of medical professionals, balancing support, accountability, and clinical excellence.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in team-based environments and love working alongside psychotherapists, specialists, and interdisciplinary colleagues to ensure patients receive integrated, comprehensive care.
  • Growth-Oriented: You are committed to continuous learning and staying current on regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in psychiatric care and clinical leadership.
  • Organized & Strategic: You have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You can oversee multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using technology, including Google Suite, EMR systems, and virtual platforms to support clinical operations, evaluations, and communication.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Lead the Medical Services Team: Provide leadership and management to psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical professionals. Manage a cohort both administratively and clinically to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Oversee Clinical Excellence: Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans that address the unique needs of children, adolescents, and young adults. Monitor patient outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that medical services comply with all relevant regulations and standards related to behavioral health services.
  • Collaborate for Integrated Care: Work closely with psychotherapists, diagnosticians, support staff, and families to ensure patients receive integrated, personalized, and comprehensive care.
  • Build External Partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with outside medical providers and agencies to facilitate coordinated care and referrals.
  • Drive Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and identify areas for improvement in clinical services. Lead performance management and create improvement plans when needed.
  • Support Recruitment & Onboarding: Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new medical staff. Foster a culture of mentorship and professional development.

The Basics You'll Need:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited nursing program
  • PMHNP-BC certification
  • Active PMHNP/APRN license in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Maryland - as part of this role you will be required to obtain licenses in additional states.
  • At least 3 years of post-licensure experience practicing as a PMHNP, including pediatric or adolescent mental health experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in an administrative or leadership role in a behavioral health setting
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of evidence-based practices in pediatric psychiatry
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of medical professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to behavioral health services
